OMAHA, Neb. — Local boxer Melanie Timko is set to make history this Friday as she competes for championship titles in the Women’s World Boxing Association (WBA) and the North American Boxing Association (NABA), becoming the first woman from Nebraska to fight for such honors.

The Path to Championship

Timko’s journey into the boxing world began a decade ago at Jackson’s Boxing Club, originally as a way to maintain fitness. However, her talent was recognized by her coach, who urged her to take her skills into the competitive arena.

Describing her preparation, Timko stated, “Just enjoy the journey. Every step you build, you do the next step. And so, instead of worrying about each step individually … just enjoy the process.”
