The Inaugural Game of Women’s Hockey at Wesleyan College

The energy in the stands was palpable as fans, clad in purple hockey jerseys, cheered enthusiastically while waving purple streamers. The excitement peaked when Keeleigh Bott, a freshman, netted her third goal in the first period, completing a hat trick that sent the crowd into a frenzy.
Coach’s Personal Touch

Pioneering a New Era
Four years prior to the launch of the team, Wesleyan College President Meghan Blight envisioned establishing a women’s hockey program at the institution. With the creation of the Wolves, Wesleyan has etched its name in history as the first college in Middle Georgia to offer women’s hockey. Blight articulated her vision, stating, “Wesleyan’s known for first. We were the first college chartered to grant degrees to women. It made sense to have this as a first as well.”
Cheers from the Players
After the triumphant game, Skylar Young, a goalie for the Wolves, shared her exhilaration about the event: “I feel amazed,” she conveyed. “Just starstruck with everyone coming and all the support.”
Ashley Garcia Vidal, a Wesleyan College student and first-time hockey spectator, expressed her joy and pride in witnessing this historic moment for women in sports: “It’s inspiring to see the women involved in the game.”
Looking Ahead
The Wesleyan Wolves are set to continue their season with a match against Georgia on October 2 at 8 p.m. at the Macon Coliseum, where they hope to build on their stunning opening performance.
