New Leadership for Women’s Hockey

Hockey Canada has officially named Kori Cheverie as the head coach of the women’s national hockey team, as the squad prepares for the upcoming world championship in Esbjerg, Denmark, scheduled from November 6-16, 2023.

Coaching and Competitive Experience

Cheverie, 39, brings a wealth of experience to her new role, having led the Montréal Victoire to victory in the PWHL’s Walter Cup last season. In addition, she previously served as an assistant coach for the Canadian women’s team that earned a silver medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.

Alongside Cheverie, the coaching staff will include notable figures Caroline Ouellette and Kris Sparre, who will assist in guiding the team through the world championship and the 2026-27 season.

Cheverie’s Vision and Commitment

Expressing her enthusiasm for the position, Cheverie stated, “I am incredibly proud and honoured to have the opportunity to lead Canada’s national women’s team. Growing up playing hockey in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, I had big dreams of one day being part of Team Canada.”

She further commented, “I am excited to work alongside an amazing group of athletes and staff as we continue building together. With the 2026 IIHF Women’s World Championship in front of us in November, I cannot wait to get to work, compete for Canada and continue pushing this program forward.”

Upcoming Team Activities

The Canadian women’s hockey team will convene in Quebec City for a selection camp from October 8-14, 2023. This camp will include both on-ice and off-ice training sessions, along with two intra-squad games scheduled for October 12 and 14 at the Centre Vidéotron.

Further preparation will see the team face off against the defending Olympic champions, the United States, in a pre-tournament game set for October 28 in Windsor.
