Stony Brook University Hospital Leads in Urodynamic Innovation
Stony Brook University Hospital (SBUH) has made significant advances in the field of urology with the introduction of the Glean™ Urodynamics procedure. This innovative technology is the first of its kind on the East Coast and one of the first in the nation, developed to enhance the evaluation of bladder function for millions suffering from bladder control issues.
Revolutionizing Bladder Function Assessment
Every day, approximately 17 million individuals in the United States face challenges related to bladder control. Traditionally, urodynamic testing involved invasive catheterization within a clinical setting, which could be uncomfortable and restrictive.
The Glean™ system, designed by Bright Uro, revolutionizes this approach by enabling real-time, wireless data collection in a more natural and ambulatory setting. This reduces the invasiveness of the testing process and facilitates a more accurate diagnosis for patients with lower urinary tract dysfunction (LUTD).
Expert Leadership in Clinical Trials
Dr. Jason Kim, the Associate Professor of Urology and Director of the Women’s Pelvic Health and Continence Center at SBUH, served as the national principal investigator during the FDA approval process for Glean™. Results from this pivotal trial have been published in the Journal of Endourology.
