CLINTON, N.Y. – In a thrilling matchup on Saturday, October 3, Hamilton College emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Wesleyan University in a NESCAC women’s soccer clash held at Love Field. Key contributions from Haley Cramer ’28 and Sarah Flood ’27 secured this important victory for the Continentals.

Match Summary

The Continentals, boasting a record of 7-1-1 (4-1-1 NESCAC), have now marked their third consecutive win. This successful streak includes an impressive record of five home victories. Conversely, Wesleyan, ranked No. 6 nationally, fell to a 7-3-0 record (3-3 NESCAC) after suffering two consecutive losses, allowing five goals in those matches.

Scoring Breakdown

Cramer opened the scoring for Hamilton early in the 13th minute. After a well-taken corner kick from Kate Giglio ’28, Cramer positioned herself perfectly at the near post, executing a powerful header that found the back of the net, bringing the score to 1-0.

As the match progressed, Hamilton maintained their slim lead until the 72nd minute when Flood extended the lead to 2-0. A free kick, taken by Diana Baffor ’29 from a challenging angle, found Flood, who deftly headed the ball into the wide-open goal.

In the final moments, Wesleyan’s Taylor Hill managed to find the net with just 23 seconds left on the clock, bringing the game to a nail-biting finish.

Player Highlights

  • Goalkeeper Olivia Connolly ’27 was instrumental in preserving the lead, making four of her six saves during the second half. Notably, Hill’s late goal marked the first time Connolly conceded a goal in over 505 minutes this fall.
  • Cramer currently stands as the second-leading scorer for the Continentals with three goals and 10 points for the season.
  • This match also marked Flood’s first goal since the season opener, adding to the excitement of the victory.
  • Giglio remains a significant offensive asset, tying for the NESCAC lead with five assists.
  • Baffor, contributing to the playmaking, has accumulated two assists this season and three overall in her career at Hamilton.
  • The Continentals showcased their offensive strategy, taking all six of their corner kicks in the first half. However, Wesleyan dominated possession and shot attempts in the second half with a 10-2 advantage.
  • Notably, this victory marks Hamilton’s first home win against Wesleyan since 2017.

Next Match

Looking ahead, the Continentals are set to face a formidable opponent in No. 3 Tufts University (5-0-2, 3-0-2) in another vital conference contest. This matchup is scheduled for Sunday, October 4, at 11 a.m.
