Hartford Women’s Tennis Faces Setback Against Gordon College

Wenham, MA — The Hartford women’s tennis team encountered a challenging match on Saturday, suffering a 7-0 defeat against Gordon College in conference competition. This result pushes the Hawks’ season record to 1-5, while the Fighting Scots improve to 4-3.

Match Summary

Doubles Competition

The morning began with doubles matches where Hartford struggled to gain momentum. The duo of graduate student Lia Gosselin from South Bend, Indiana, and junior Victalia Z. Deida from New Haven, Connecticut, managed to score a point against Gordon’s Lucille Belval and Makayla Otey, ultimately losing the match 6-1. However, this was the lone highlight for Hartford in doubles play, with the freshmen pairing of Isabelle Simino (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomore Maddie Pearlman (New Hampton, N.Y.) falling to Amanda Kim and Serena Ross in another 6-1 decision. Junior Jessica Marks (Hartford, Conn.) and graduate student Lora Acquario (East Nassau, N.Y.) were defeated by Abigail Goodwin and Chloe Hanley, with the final score of their match being 6-0.

Singles Matches

In the singles events, the Fighting Scots maintained their dominance. Gosselin showcased commendable effort in her match against Chloe Hanley, narrowly losing the first set 6-0, but managing to rally and score five points in the second set before ultimately falling 7-5. Marks also battled competitively, succumbing to Katherine Kim with scores of 6-3 and 6-0. Simino faced a tough opponent in Abigail Goodwin, losing 6-1, 6-2. Deida, Acquario, and Pearlman each faced formidable challenges as well, all finishing their matches with 6-0, 6-0 losses against Makayla Otey, Gianna Hallam, and Serena Ross, respectively.

Upcoming Match

Looking ahead, the Hawks will face local rivals, the University of Saint Joseph, in a highly anticipated matchup scheduled at home on October 7th at 2:30 PM. This encounter presents an opportunity for Hartford to rebound and improve their season standing.
