Natalie Nakase’s Brief Collapse During Playoff Game
The Golden State Valkyries celebrated a playoff victory against the Dallas Wings, despite a concerning moment involving head coach Natalie Nakase.
Incident Overview
During the fourth quarter of Game 3 in the WNBA playoffs at the Chase Center in San Francisco, Coach Nakase, 46, experienced a brief collapse on the court. While engaged in conversation with a referee during a timeout, she fell to her hands and knees.
A few moments later, Nakase was aided by staff and helped back to her feet, visibly touching her forehead after the incident. Despite this alarming moment, she continued to coach the remainder of the game.
Game Outcome
His persistence paid off as the Valkyries secured a close victory, ending the game with a final score of 77-73 against the Dallas Wings. Following the match, Nakase did not address the media, which is customary for head coaches post-game.
Coaching Staff Update
Assistant Coach Kasib Powell provided an update on Nakase’s condition. He assured reporters, “Natalie’s fine. Obviously, it’s a quick turnaround. We play again on Sunday. She wouldn’t miss it for anything.”
Powell indicated that while Nakase had experienced a concerning moment, she was in good spirits, sharing conversations and laughter with staff members in the aftermath of the incident: “We’ll figure out more as we go, but I think she’s totally fine,” he added.
Upcoming Challenge
Nakase is expected to lead the Valkyries in their next playoff challenge against the defending champions, the Las Vegas Aces, on Sunday. Powell emphasized, “We do know that she will be ready for Sunday.”
This pivotal series will determine who advances to the WNBA Finals, where they will face either the eighth-seeded Liberty or the fourth-seeded Dream.
