Hey Hey 5K Draws Over 300 Runners to Door County Brewing Co.

On September 26, the annual Hey Hey 5K attracted over 300 enthusiastic participants to the scenic grounds of Door County Brewing Co., set against the backdrop of a splendid autumn morning.
Race Highlights
Among the standout performers was Raissa Ashman of Seymour, who secured victory in the women’s category for the third consecutive year, finishing the race in 20:51. Ashman’s win marked her fourth overall at this event, as she outpaced competitors Catie Schmitt from Green Bay (21:11) and Trina Johnson from Fitchburg (22:15).
In the overall rankings, Ben Schmeckpeper from Evanston, Illinois, claimed first place with a swift time of 17:17, followed by Timmy Lyons (17:44) and Kyle Jablonski of Baileys Harbor (19:23). Schmeckpeper’s performance solidified his status as a formidable runner in this year’s race.


A Celebration of Community
The festivities were not limited to elite performances; the race was attended by a variety of runners and families, showcasing the community spirit. Nancy Rollins, known as a masters running legend, finished the race at age 79 in 27:18, while the oldest participant, 85-year-old Joe Lienau from Fish Creek, completed the run in 1:03:15. The event also welcomed youth participants as young as five years old.
Recognizing Winners
Top finishers in the race received gift cards to Door County Brewing Co., while winners in various age categories took home custom Vacationland pint glasses. All young participants received complimentary mini golf passes at Egg Harbor Fun Park, enhancing the family-friendly atmosphere of the event.
