2027 WTA Calendar to Feature 55 Tournaments in 26 Countries
The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) is taking a significant step towards equality with a new initiative that will ensure equal prize money for men and women across all combined WTA 1000 tournaments. This announcement anticipates full implementation by 2027.
Equal Prize Money Implementation
With this groundbreaking decision, events such as those held in Rome will align with other pivotal 1000-level tournaments—including those in Canada, Cincinnati, Indian Wells, Miami, Madrid, and China—in offering equal financial rewards for female and male athletes. This move also extends to major competitions like the United Cup and the four Grand Slam tournaments.
Commitment to Equality
WTA President Valérie Camillo emphasized the importance of this development, stating, “Achieving equal prize money across all combined WTA 1000 tournaments is a milestone in tennis history.” She further noted that this initiative underscores the WTA’s dedication to leading the sports sector in promoting competitive and financial equity.
Upcoming WTA Calendar Highlights
The 2027 WTA schedule is set to include 55 tournaments spanning 26 countries and territories. Among these events, the WTA Finals will take place in Charlotte, North Carolina, for a duration of at least three years starting from 2027. This expanded calendar is indicative of the WTA’s commitment to growth and inclusivity in women’s tennis.
