Shooting Incident in Downtown Portland Leaves Two Injured
PORTLAND, Ore — In the early hours of Saturday, a shooting in downtown Portland resulted in two individuals suffering gunshot wounds, although both injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening. The incident occurred around 12:20 a.m. near the intersection of Southwest 3rd Avenue and West Burnside Street.
Initial Response and Investigation
Officers responding to a disturbance in the area heard gunfire while en route. Upon arrival, they discovered evidence indicating a shooting had taken place. However, no suspects or victims were initially found at the scene.
Identification of Suspect Vehicle
Following the shooting, law enforcement identified a suspect vehicle departing the downtown area, heading toward Interstate 84. Although officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the driver accelerated away from the scene, leading police to refrain from a high-speed pursuit for safety reasons.
The Portland Police Bureau’s Air Support Unit continued tracking the vehicle until it came to a stop near Northeast 58th Avenue and Northeast Flanders Street. The occupants then fled on foot into the surrounding neighborhood.
Detention and Hospitalization
In response, officers from various precincts, along with the K9 unit, established a perimeter around the area. During the subsequent search, four men were detained as part of the ongoing investigation.
Separate from the police response, it was discovered that two men later arrived at a local hospital via private vehicle, both seeking treatment for their gunshot wounds.
