DECATUR, Ill. — The North Park women’s tennis team showcased their skills with a definitive 6-1 victory against Millikin University on Wednesday at Fairview Park Tennis Complex.
The Vikings started strong, achieving a clean sweep in doubles matches. The top pair, Tyra Olsson and Alexandra Pugachova, overwhelmed their opponents, Rachel Combs and Maria Jeres, with a 6-0 scoreline. Following this, Isabelle Richter and Katharina Schuler secured a 6-4 win at the second doubles position, and Nova Mickelsson alongside Jessica Dudas triumphed in a tightly contested tiebreaker for the third doubles match.
Carrying their momentum into singles play, North Park clinched five out of six contests. At the No. 1 singles position, Pugachova displayed dominance, achieving a swift 6-1, 6-1 victory over Combs. Schuler also delivered an impressive performance at No. 2 singles, defeating Bella Griffiths without losing a single game, finishing 6-0, 6-0.
Dudas contributed significantly with a win at No. 3 singles, overcoming Jeres with a score of 6-4, 6-3. Richter added another point for her team with a solid 6-0, 6-2 result at the No. 6 singles. The most intense match took place at No. 5 singles, where Andromeda Diamantidis made a comeback after losing the first set. She claimed the second set 6-4 and secured the overall match with a 10-5 win in the super tiebreak.
The only point for Millikin came from Braxtyn Madison, who managed to defeat Thea Gifvars in straight sets at No. 4 singles.
Looking Ahead
This victory brings North Park’s overall record to 3-3 for the season. The Vikings are set to continue their conference play, facing Augustana on Friday followed by a match against Carroll on Sunday.
