FRESNO, Calif. – The San Diego State women’s soccer team faced a challenging match against Fresno State on Thursday night, resulting in a 1-1 draw. This marks the second consecutive outing for the Aztecs in which a late goal from their opponent has surfaced to level the score.
Match Highlights
The first half exhibited strong defensive efforts from both teams, with San Diego State (5-2-4, 1-0-2 MW) and Fresno State (4-3-4, 1-1-1 MW) exchanging few opportunities. The only shot on goal of the first half came from SDSU’s Emma Fuller at the 17-minute mark, but Fresno State goalkeeper Shivani Battaglia successfully intervened to keep the match scoreless.
Just after the second half commenced, San Diego State took the initiative. Lily Boudet found the net for the Aztecs a little over two minutes into the period, scoring at the 47:21 mark. The offensive pressure continued, but it wasn’t until the 60th minute that Fresno State’s Sabrina Welch had a free kick saved by Aztec goalie Kailey Carlen.
Victoria Miller, SDSU’s leading scorer, attempted to extend the lead in the 82nd minute, only for Battaglia to make another critical save.
Late Equalizer
As the match approached its conclusion, the Bulldogs managed to break through San Diego State’s solid defense. Ciara Wilson scored with just 2:40 left on the clock, assisted by Kayla Robinson, leveling the game. In the final moments, Fresno State sought to gain the lead, but Carlen’s reflexes were sharp as she denied a shot from Aniston Renovato, ensuring the Aztecs secured a draw.
