Fifteen-year-old Keira, from Stoke-on-Trent, has triumphed in the under-16s category at the CrossFit championships held in Ohio, USA. This victory marks her second consecutive world title, exemplifying her dedication and hard work in the sport.
Reflecting on her achievement, Keira shared, “It’s sunk in a bit more now, because afterwards you don’t really comprehend what you’ve done.”
Training Background
Keira trains at a gym in Hanley, guided by her father, Joel. Her brother also shares a competitive spirit, having previously won both British and world titles in CrossFit. Joel has taken initiative to promote CrossFit in the UK, seeking not only to enhance participation in the sport but also to nurture his children’s skills to compete globally.
“To have three UK athletes from my gym go and take part against the best in the world is massive,” Joel emphasized, noting the level of commitment involved in training for such high-caliber competitions.
Challenges and Motivation
Keira acknowledged the balancing act of training while managing school commitments, stating that maintaining motivation can sometimes be challenging. Nonetheless, she spends approximately four hours each day at the gym, indicating her serious commitment to her training and performance.
After being introduced to CrossFit at the age of seven, initially as a means to enhance her fitness for football, Keira’s passion for the sport has grown, leading her to train intensively.
Family Support and Future Aspirations
Keira’s mother, Lisa, expressed immense pride in her daughter’s accomplishments: “Watching her out there on the competition floor makes me proud, but I think watching how hard she works leading up to it makes me prouder,” she said. This family-centric support undoubtedly plays a critical role in Keira’s journey as a competitive athlete.
As interest in CrossFit continues to rise in the UK, Keira’s recent successes have attracted more individuals to the sport, indicating a positive trend for the future of CrossFit competition in the region.
