Minjee Lee Pursues Career Grand Slam at AIG Women’s Open
The Path to the Super Slam
Minjee Lee is on the cusp of achieving a significant milestone in her golfing career at the upcoming AIG Women’s Open. A victory at this prestigious event would crown her as a Career Grand Slam winner, placing her one step closer to the elusive ‘Super Slam.’ The latter has only been attained by Karrie Webb, the sole player in history to secure this feat.
Defining the Super Slam
The landscape of women’s golf has evolved since the Amundi Evian Championship was elevated to major status in 2013, resulting in five major tournaments each year. Top competitors now aspire to achieve the Super Career Grand Slam, while those who secure four of the five major titles are recognized as Career Grand Slam winners.
As of now, only seven women have accomplished this feat, and with her victories at the Amundi Evian Championship in 2021, the US Women’s Open in 2022, and the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in 2025, Lee is poised to become the eighth.
Strong Performance Background
Lee has consistently performed well, boasting top-five finishes from 2020 to 2022. As she approaches the stunning Royal Porthcawl for this week’s tournament, Lee acknowledges the competitive nature of major tournaments as a key motivator in her current performance.
“All the majors are a great motivator for me,” said Lee, reflecting on her recent form.
Lee aims to achieve the Career Grand Slam, calling it “absolutely amazing,” and finds additional inspiration from fellow golfer Lydia Ko, a Hall of Fame member.
Current Context in Women’s Golf
At this year’s AIG Women’s Open, Lee is among nine Australian competitors—the presence of which marks a significant change since her debut on the LPGA Tour a decade ago. With a notable influx of new talent, including Grace Kim and Stephanie Kyriacou, Lee feels she has transitioned into a supportive role, likening herself to an “older sister” figure to the newcomers.
“I’ve seen them since their amateur days and junior days, and now they’re on the circuit with me,” she shared.
