The Dub: Kansas City’s First Women’s Sports Bar Opens Downtown

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A new destination for sports enthusiasts dedicated to celebrating women’s athletics has officially opened its doors in downtown Kansas City. “The Dub,” situated near 9th and Baltimore, proudly claims the title of the city’s first women’s sports-themed bar.

Prioritizing Women’s Sports

The establishment is designed to showcase all major sports events, with a specific emphasis on women’s competitions across the screens. Co-owner Monica Brady emphasizes the bar’s inclusive aim, stating, “It’s not only about watching women’s sports; it’s about building communities.”

Community Excitement and Anticipation

Fellow co-owner Rachel Glenn noted the palpable excitement surrounding the venue leading up to its opening. “Everybody’s been excited. They’ve been waiting for it,” Glenn remarked, reflecting the local enthusiasm for this initiative.

Connecting with Local Sports Fans

With the Kansas City Current stadium conveniently located a short streetcar ride away, the owners anticipate that The Dub will draw fans not just on game days but year-round. Brady commented on the current surge in interest in women’s sports: “There’s so much momentum behind women’s sports right now; it’s about putting women on the same playing field as men.”

A Vision Three Years in the Making

The concept for The Dub has been in development for over three years, showcasing the dedication of its creators to fostering an environment where anyone can enjoy women’s athletics. According to Brady, the bar aims to attract fans of diverse sports, from the WNBA to professional volleyball and hockey.

A Friendly Atmosphere for All

“Hopefully, you come to learn a little bit more about sports, find your favorite one, and make a friend,” Brady added, highlighting the bar’s mission of community connection.
