2025 Student Energy Career Training Program: Empowering Women in Africa

Applications are now open for the 2025 Student Energy Career Training Program (SECT), a unique initiative designed to enhance leadership and employability skills among participants through a focus on energy education, project management training, and individualized career coaching.
Program Overview
The upcoming cohort, themed “Women in Energy Africa,” invites young women aged 18 to 30 across Africa who are keen on pursuing careers in the sustainable energy sector. This fully online program will be conducted in English.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the SECT program, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- English Proficiency: Must be fluent in English to communicate effectively with peers, coaches, and industry partners.
- Education: Should have completed or be currently enrolled in a post-secondary educational program (certificate, diploma, or degree).
- Internet Access: Must have reliable internet to attend virtual sessions, engage with coursework, and collaborate with fellow participants.
- Nationality and Residence: Must be a citizen of an African country and currently reside there.

Program Schedule
The SECT program will run from July 2025 to February 2026, requiring a commitment of approximately 10 hours per week over 30 weeks.
Program Phases
- Mid-July to Mid-August: Introduction to the curriculum, including the Launch Webinar and completion of the General Curriculum with several learning units and assignments.
- Mid-August to Mid-December: Active participation in mandatory meetings, collaboration with project partners, and work on the Practicum Project.
- Early January to Early February: Focus on career development, completing specialized learning units and attending coaching sessions.
Application Requirements
Interested candidates should prepare the following materials for their application:
- Responses to two essay questions (max 250 words each):
- Rationale for joining the Career Training Program.
- A skill or topic of interest within the program and its significance.
- A 2-3 minute video uploaded to YouTube addressing:
- The fit of the SECT program within your career trajectory and aspirations.
- A past experience where teamwork fostered success.
- Your strengths, goals, and what unique traits you’ll bring to the program.
- A current CV (maximum of 2 pages) in PDF format.
