Corey Harris Named Head Coach of CCGA Women’s Basketball
BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The College of Coastal Georgia has formally appointed Corey Harris as the head coach of the women’s basketball program following his successful stint as interim coach last season. His promotion is effective as the program prepares for the upcoming 2025-26 season.
A Promising Start
Coach Harris stepped into the interim role at the conclusion of the 2023-24 season and concluded the year with a balanced record of 12 wins and 12 losses, alongside a 5-11 performance in conference play. This accomplishment marks the second-best record for a first-year head coach in the program’s history, just behind Jonathon Barbaree’s inaugural season record of 13-17 set in 2014-15.
Coaching Achievement and Academic Excellence
Under Harris’s guidance, the Mariners made significant strides both on the court and in the classroom. The team not only achieved a notable record but also secured the third-highest GPA among athletic teams in the department, with a collective GPA of 3.37, earning them NAIA Scholar Team recognition. Harris was instrumental in coaching standout players, including Tyler Butler, who received Second Team All-Sun Conference honors and freshman Peyton Shafer, who recorded a school record of 70 steals.

“I am very excited to be the next leader of this program,” said Harris. “This past season was an unforgettable year with a lot of firsts; however, I am very excited for the future of this program.
