Nanooks Women’s Basketball Welcomes Chozen Horn-Young for 2025-26 Season
FAIRBANKS – The University of Alaska Fairbanks’ women’s basketball team has announced that Chozen Horn-Young will be joining the squad for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Horn-Young, who hails from Oakland, California, is making the transition from the College of San Mateo, where she excelled in her two seasons on the court.

Head coach Michael Ricks expressed enthusiasm about Horn-Young’s commitment, stating, “We’re excited to welcome Chozen to the Nanook family. She’s a dynamic guard who brings energy, toughness, and a fearless mindset to the floor. Her versatility and competitive drive will make her a strong fit for our style of play and a valuable addition to our program.”
Performance Highlights
During her tenure with the CSM Bulldogs, Horn-Young showcased her skills by averaging 9.7 points per game over her two seasons. In the 2023-24 season, she played in 29 games, averaging 18.1 minutes per contest. She contributed 7.1 points and 2.3 rebounds per game while posting a shooting percentage of 31.4%. Additionally, she recorded 27 assists and 30 steals.
In her sophomore year, Horn-Young took on a starting role in every game, increasing her playing time to 26.7 minutes on average. She improved her scoring to 12.3 points per game and added 4.1 rebounds, with a shooting percentage of 34.6%. Notably, she achieved double-digit scoring in 18 games, including three occasions where she scored 20 or more points. Her standout performance came on November 1, 2024, when she logged a career-high 23 points against Fresno, shooting 8-of-21 from the field. Her impressive play during the 2024-25 season earned her a place on the Coast Conference North All-Conference Second Team.
