Empowering Change: Zonta Club Promotes 16 Days of Activism
The Zonta Club of Jamestown actively participates in the global initiative known as the Zonta Says NO to Violence Against Women campaign during the annual 16 Days of Activism. This movement urges Zonta clubs and districts worldwide to raise awareness and take action against gender-based violence.
These 16 Days of Activism span from November 25, recognized as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, to December 10, which is celebrated as Human Rights Day. The initiative aims to inspire local, national, and international efforts to advocate for robust laws and to shift societal norms and attitudes towards ending violence against women.
This year, the Zonta Club of Jamestown sought collaboration from Mayor Kimberly Ecklund, who took a proactive stance in spreading awareness. Mayor Ecklund issued a proclamation to mark the 16 Days of Activism and gathered with club members in the lobby of Jamestown City Hall. She expressed, “The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence provides a critical platform to unite with women and girls globally who endure the severe repercussions of violence. Here in Jamestown, we are committed to fostering awareness, advocating for transformative change, and ensuring that every woman and girl can live with dignity, safety, and equality. Together, we can disrupt the cycle of violence and envision a future where women flourish.”
In complement to their efforts, the Zonta Club has organized various activities, including displays in local libraries, the installation of yard signs throughout the community, and the decoration of a tree in Baker Park to further engage the public in this important conversation.
