Cyclists from Worcestershire’s Women on Wheels Embrace Challenge for St Richard’s Hospice
The dedicated members of Worcestershire’s Women on Wheels community took on an exciting challenge, cycling, walking, and paddling to support St Richard’s Hospice.
Fundraising Goals
The group set their sights on raising a minimum of £5,000 for the hospice, embarking on a series of activities that included navigating bell boats, trekking the scenic Severn Way, and cycling through picturesque countryside—all within a single day.
Group’s Spirit and Motivation
Before the event, organizer Barbara Wilson highlighted the camaraderie of the club, stating, “We are a friendly and sociable women’s cycling group, always eager for a challenge. Alongside our physical pursuits, we are proud to support the remarkable work carried out by St Richard’s.”
As a volunteer at the Upton charity shop for the hospice, Ms. Wilson expressed her commitment, saying, “Every paddle, step, and pedal will be incredibly worthwhile.”
Leadership and Pride
Rachel Nicholls, chair and co-founder of Women on Wheels since 2012, shared her excitement about the members’ involvement: “I am thrilled to see so many of our members taking on such a meaningful challenge for a local charity. Their willingness and determination to help others while having fun is a source of great pride for me.”
The Challenge Journey
The adventurous day saw the women paddling approximately 10 to 12 miles along the River Avon, followed by a 10-mile trek along the Severn Way, and concluding with a 15-mile cycling route leading them to Pershore Town Football Club.
