Albion Women’s Wrestling Team Competes at Missouri Valley Open

The Albion College women’s wrestling program participated in the Missouri Valley Open held at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Missouri. The event featured an impressive turnout, with fifty-one teams from across the nation represented.

Notable Performances

Among the Albion competitors, Gabby Motz, wrestling in the 110-pound category, and Ryleigh Ruiz at 117 pounds distinguished themselves by securing victories. Motz finished with a record of 2-2; she achieved one win by decision and another by pinning her opponent. Ruiz also found success in her debut match, securing a victory through a pin.

Other Competitors

The other members of the Albion squad faced tough competition, concluding their bouts without wins. Abby Geairn (124 pounds) and Naomi Grummet (138 pounds) both recorded 0-2 records, as did Paris Ford in the 160-pound class. Additionally, nationally-ranked wrestler Heaven Cole, who competed in the 207-pound category, also finished her matches with an 0-2 record, taking on formidable opponents from the University of Iowa and the University of Nebraska.

Looking Ahead

Following their participation in the Missouri Valley Open, the Albion women’s wrestling team is scheduled for a dual meet in Manchester on Thursday, December 4, alongside the men’s wrestling team.
