EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – The Gannon women’s wrestling team showcased a commendable effort at the ESU Open, finishing fifth among 36 competing schools.
Highlighting the event, sophomore Bella Phillips (Bellingham, Wash./Squalicum High School) triumphed in the 180-pound category, while Rose Cassioppi (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) earned a close second place in the same weight class.
Individual Results Breakdown
Here are the individual performances of Gannon wrestlers:
- 103 lbs: Jada Badayos-Chaves (Odenton, Md./Arundel High) – 5th Place: R1 W (12-0), R2 W (4-0), QF L (17-10), Cons R1 W (10-0), Cons R2 W (12-2), 5th Place W (12-2)
- 117 lbs: Hannah McCarley (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda High) – Eliminated in R1 (0-6), proceeded to a win (4-0), and then eliminated in Cons R2 (2-4)
- 131 lbs:
- Jaylene Martinez (Whittier, Cal./Whittier) – Eliminated in QF (10-0)
- Joelle Scott (Cranesville, Pa./SPIRE Institute) – 6th Place: R1 W (14-4), Cons R1 W (6-2) through Cons R4 W (11-0), however, finished with a loss in 5th Place L (0-11)
- Kate Wood (Carlsbad, CA/San Marcos High School) – Eliminated in R1 (10-0), but won two in Cons R1 and R2 before losing in Cons R3
- Zoe Gaetjens (Mogadore, Ohio/Mogadore) – Eliminated in R1 (0-13), won in Cons R1 (4-0) then lost in Cons R2 (0-12)
- 138 lbs: Lili Ujfalvi (Kecskemet-heteny, Hungary/Bolyai Janos Secondary School) – 6th Place
- 160 lbs:
- Rose Cassioppi (Roscoe, Ill./Hononegah) – 2nd Place: Unbeaten in first four matches but finished with a close loss (Final L 2-3)
- 180 lbs: Bella Phillips (Bellingham, Wash./Squalicum High School) – 1st Place: Secured victories throughout the rounds finishing with a score of 7-2 in the finals
- 207 lbs: Caroline Biegel (Ringwood, N.J./DePaul Catholic) – 4th Place
Highlights of Individual Performers
Bella Phillips: Continuing her success from last season, Phillips wasted no time in securing her first win of the season, showcasing her dominance with an impressive score of 38-2 across her matches.
Rose Cassioppi: In her first meet of the season, Cassioppi proved to be a strong contender, remaining undefeated in her initial four matches before narrowly losing in the finals.
Team Achievement: Gannon’s team performance solidified their position by achieving fifth place with a total of 18 points. Lehigh lead the meet with 30 points.

The Golden Knights are set to compete next at the Adrian Duals/Invite on November 8th and 9th.
