Utah Valley University Announces 2025 Volleyball Schedule and Soccer Coaching Updates
2025 Women’s Volleyball Schedule Unveiled
Utah Valley University’s head women’s volleyball coach, Sam Atoa, has revealed the 2025 competition schedule, which is marked by key in-state matchups and a robust nonconference calendar, featuring six teams that appeared in postseason tournaments last year.
The Wolverines will compete against all in-state NCAA Division I opponents, including home games against Utah State and BYU. Notably, the lineup includes four teams that made it to the NCAA Tournament and two that were part of the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC).
“It’s hard to believe we’re already approaching another season,” Atoa commented. “I’m excited for the challenge ahead and the strong schedule we’ve put together. We’re building on what we accomplished last year and have high expectations for this group.”
Opening Matches and Notable Competitions
The 2025 season will kick off with the Utah Valley Invitational, starting on Friday, August 29. The Wolverines are set to face Montana at 12:30 p.m. MT, followed by a match against Navy later that day at 7 p.m. The opening weekend also features a match against Boise State, a team that finished last season with an impressive 19-10 record in the Mountain West Conference.
UVU will then travel to Hawaii for the Outrigger Invitational, where they will take on San José State, St. John’s, and the host team, Hawaii, who finished as the Big West Tournament champions.
In-State Rivalry and Conference Play
The Wolverines’ in-state action begins with a trip to Utah on September 9, followed by matches against Duke and Coastal Carolina. The nonconference games wrap up with contests against Utah State on September 18 and BYU on September 20.
WAC play for Utah Valley features 12 league matches in a home-and-home format, starting with home encounters against Abilene Christian (September 25) and Tarleton State (September 27). The schedule then leads into a series of enthusiastic rivalries, including the Old Hammer Rivalry against Utah Tech in October.
Host of the 2025 WAC Tournament
Utah Valley will have the honor of hosting the 2025 WAC Tournament at Lockhart Arena from November 20-22, offering the team a chance to secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Soccer Program Coaching Developments
In soccer news, head coach Chris Lemay has announced the addition of former standout CJ Graham as the new assistant coach focusing on goalkeepers. Additionally, promotions have been made within the coaching staff for Sydney Bushman and Ashton Gordon, elevating their roles for the upcoming season.
“Bringing CJ in as our goalkeeper coach is really exciting for our program,” said Lemay. “As a player, she proved her ability to compete and perform in the most critical moments.”
CJ Graham’s Impressive Background
Graham returns to UVU after a successful collegiate career, during which she played a pivotal role in the Wolverines winning back-to-back Western Athletic Conference regular season titles. She established a UVU single-season record with a 0.78 goals against average in 2023.
Prior to her time at UVU, Graham excelled at Lipscomb University, where she achieved numerous accolades, including ASUN Goalkeeper of the Year honors.
Promotions within the Coaching Staff
Sydney Bushman has been promoted to a full-time assistant coaching role. Following a stellar playing career, she has already made significant contributions, including two WAC regular season titles and a pivotal performance during the team’s first NCAA Tournament victory.
Ashton Gordon, previously the Director of Operations, has transitioned into a coaching role, taking on responsibilities formerly held by Bushman. Gordon brings experience from her earlier position as an assistant coach at the University of Pittsburgh, where she distinguished herself as a player at both Arkansas and Pitt.
These updates position the UVU women’s soccer program with a capable and dynamic coaching unit as they head into the 2025 season.
