History

CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. – In their recent contest, the Lindenwood women’s volleyball team (10-11, 6-7 OVC) faced a tough opponent in Southeast Missouri State University, suffering a 3-1 defeat. The Redhawks improved their record to 15-12, with a conference standing of 7-6 OVC.

Match Overview

The match began with a competitive first set, which featured seven lead changes. Despite a closely contested battle, Lindenwood secured a narrow victory in the opening set, winning 25-23, bolstered by six kills from Kylee Richey. However, Southeast Missouri would turn the tide in subsequent sets, edging out a 26-24 win in set two and maintaining control for the remainder of the match.

Player Performances

Despite the loss, Autumn Bax showcased her skills once again, contributing significantly with 19.5 points through 16 kills, along with two service aces and two blocks. She also led her team in digs with 14, marking her fifth double-double of the season. Additionally, Kylee Richey added 11 kills and two blocks to the effort.

Other notable contributions included Jade Roth, with nine kills and a team-high four blocks, and Ashley Geluck, who also finished with nine kills and two blocks. Amelia Thro was pivotal in playmaking, delivering 36 assists throughout the match.

Coaching Insights

Reflecting on the match, Lions head coach Will Condon stated, “We started off well and did a good job of applying pressure with our serve, but defensively we could not capitalize consistently enough. We forced them to make adjustments, but we were unable to counter them. They do a good job of consistently applying pressure and were able to turn those into runs of points. We will need to respond better tomorrow. I think we showed we can make them uncomfortable at times, but we have to do a better job of taking advantage of it.”

Next Match

Lindenwood is set to face Southeast Missouri State University again on Saturday, November 8, at 2:00 p.m. in the concluding match of the two-game series.
