Gonzaga Women’s Tennis Triumphs Over New Mexico State

LAS CRUCES, NM – The Gonzaga University women’s tennis team delivered an impressive performance, defeating New Mexico State with a score of 4-1 on Friday afternoon. With this victory, they improve their overall record to 3-1 in the dual-match season.

The doubles matches set the tone for the competition as Gonzaga split the first two outcomes. The duo of Norhan Hesham and Brooke Bittner secured a 6-3 victory, while Rose Hayes and Ella Nielsen fell short in a tight 6-4 contest. It was the decisive match led by Emily Robertson and Safien Boulonois, who fought through a tiebreaker to clinch the doubles point for Gonzaga.

As singles play began, Nielsen and Bittner showcased their talent by each securing victories in straight sets. On the other hand, Hesham faced a tough competitor, resulting in a loss after a second-set tiebreaker. Robertson’s victory with scores of 7-5 and 6-3 ultimately sealed the match for the Bulldogs.

At the point of clinching the dual, Hayes was leading her second set 5-3 after winning the first one 6-4. Meanwhile, Boulonois put up a valiant effort, narrowly losing a first-set tiebreaker 11-9 but managed to mount a lead at 5-4 in the second set.
