BOISE, Idaho – In a challenging match on Sunday at the Boas Indoor Tennis Center, the Gonzaga women’s tennis team faced a tough defeat, falling to Boise State with a score of 7-0.
The Bulldogs struggled in doubles play, with both pairs – Rose Hayes/Lia Espinal and Norhan Hesham/Brooke Bittner – losing their matches 6-1, while Emily Robertson and Safien Boulonois were in a tight contest at 4-5 when the doubles point was secured by the Broncos.
In singles, after early losses for Hayes and Hesham, Robertson had a strong start leading her first set 5-1. However, Boise State’s Zdena Safarova made an impressive comeback, defeating Robertson 7-6 (4), 6-0, which clinched the overall win for the team. The matches continued, seeing Boulonois and Bittner also fall in straight sets.
The last singles match featured Ella Nielsen, who took the opening set 6-3. Unfortunately, her opponent rallied to win the second set 7-5, leading to a super tiebreaker where Nielsen narrowly missed out, ending the contest 11-9.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are set to travel next weekend to face New Mexico State on January 31, followed by a match against New Mexico on February 2.
