FGCU Women’s Tennis Shines at Bonita Bay Club Collegiate Open
FORT MYERS, Fla. — Florida Gulf Coast University’s women’s tennis team made history during the 2025 Bonita Bay Club Collegiate Open, achieving their best performance ever at this premier collegiate event held from Friday to Sunday in Bonita Bay, Florida.
Head coach Courtney Vernon stated, “The ladies played phenomenal this weekend and fought for each match. The way the freshmen compete with no fear and are taking feedback is quite impressive. The people at the Bonita Bay Club who support this event are amazing! We want to first thank them so much for once again hosting one of the top collegiate events in the country, if not the top event.”

Friday’s Matches Against UNA
In their opening match, the Eagles faced the University of North Alabama (UNA), where doubles teams achieved notable success. The pairings of Anjali Kotecha and Nora Svensson, alongside newcomers Sabrina Jaramillo and Cecilie Maeland, each secured victories with scores of 7-5. The FGCU team excelled in singles matches as well, winning six out of seven faced.
Saturday’s Encounter with Colorado
The competition intensified on Saturday as FGCU took on Colorado. Kotecha and Svensson continued their winning streak, triumphing in doubles with a score of 6-3. The singles matches saw five FGCU players achieve victory, further showcasing the team’s strong performance.
Final Matches Against No. 75 Memphis
On the final day, FGCU faced off against Memphis, ranked No. 75. The doubles teams of June Bjork and Africa Burillo (6-4) and Paloma Goldsmith alongside Ashley Matz (6-3) emerged victorious. In singles matches, FGCU won three out of five, wrapping up a successful weekend and marking a significant achievement in their season.
