HAMPTON, Va. — The Longwood University women’s tennis team wrapped up its fall season on Saturday at the Pirate Hidden Duals, achieving commendable results with a total of nine wins in singles and four wins in doubles competitions.
The Lancers competed against a diverse group of teams, including Hampton, North Carolina Central University (NCCU), East Carolina University (ECU), and Christopher Newport University.
Singles Performance
Longwood’s singles players displayed impressive skills, with three victories coming in straight sets:
- Feline van Eijkelenburg triumphed over NCCU’s Valeria Soria with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
- Hima Fernando secured a win against Mariana Zottoli from East Carolina, finishing 6-4, 6-3.
- Alexandra Magia overcame Ivona Savekova of East Carolina, winning 7-5, 6-4.
Doubles Achievements
The Lancers also excelled in doubles matchups, achieving victories in the following pairings:
- Bali Song and van Eijkelenburg defeated Sara Barbaric and Soria, 6-3.
- Elizaveta Gnilozubova teamed with Magia to win against NCCU’s Valentina de Aquino and Gabriela Arenas, finishing at 7-5.
- Nicole Di Bisceglia and Alexis Broderick achieved a decisive victory over Erin Gross and Nathalie Lanne from CNU, with a score of 6-0.
Additionally, Song and van Eijkelenburg partnered to narrowly defeat ECU’s Veronika Pavlenko and Xenia Jeromin with a score of 7-5.
Season Summary
In total, Longwood finished the fall season with a commendable record of 39 wins to 24 losses in singles matches and 16 wins to 14 losses in doubles play.
