Women’s Tennis Journey to San Diego for ITA Regionals

UCLA Women’s Tennis Team Competes at ITA Division I Women’s Southwest Regional Championships

Six athletes from the UCLA women’s tennis team are heading to San Diego this week to participate in the ITA Division I Women’s Southwest Regional Championships. The event will be hosted on the campuses of San Diego State University and the University of San Diego, commencing on Thursday.

Singles Qualifying Rounds

The competition kicks off with singles qualifying matches featuring Kayla Chung and Mia Jovic. Their match-ups will set the tone for the tournament as they aim to advance into the main draw.

  • Kayla Chung
    vs. Daisy Carpenter (Long Beach State) – R64
  • Mia Jovic
    vs. Stephanie Shogreen (Arizona) – R64

Main Draw Competitors

The main draw, beginning Friday, highlights several skilled Bruins, including:

  • Kate Fakih
    vs. Maria Garcia (Arizona) – R64
  • Bianca Fernandez
    vs. Karina Hofbauer (Grand Canyon) – R64
  • Ahmani Guichard
    vs. Camilia Samel Druz (LMU) – R64
  • Mayu Crossley
    vs. TBD – R64

Doubles Competition

In the doubles segment of the tournament, Mayu Crossley and Bianca Fernandez will pair up, receiving a bye in the first round. Meanwhile, another duo from UCLA, Kayla Chung and Ahmani Guichard, will face off against Dana Kunza and Madison Schwarz from Cal State Fullerton.

NCAA Qualification Opportunities

Success in this regional championship is critical, as the two finalists in the singles competition from each region will secure spots in the NCAA singles tournament in November. Additionally, the regional doubles champion will earn an invitation to the NCAA doubles draw

Fans and supporters are excited to see how the Bruins perform against a competitive field, representing UCLA with pride.
