HYOGO, Japan — The women’s tennis team from the University of Hawai’i took on Konan University in an exhibition match in Hyogo, Japan, on Thursday. Unfortunately, the match was left unfinished due to snowfall.
In the doubles competition, the Rainbow Wahine made a strong showing, securing victories at both the No. 1 and No. 3 positions to clinch the doubles point. Peppi Ramstedt and Sheena Masuda, representing UH at the top court, staged a comeback after losing the first set, triumphing over Hyogo’s Mizuki Inoue and Bui Nakamura with a score of 6-7, 6-2, 11-9. Meanwhile, at Court No. 3, Nikola Homolkova and Allaire Berl dominated their match, defeating Ai Honda and Chika Horamata decisively, 6-0, 6-2.
In singles play, Ramstedt continued her winning streak, besting Honomi Okumura in straight sets (7-5, 6-2) on Court No. 1. Emma Forgac also showcased her prowess by overcoming Suzu Mataki in a hard-fought three-set match, finishing with scores of 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
Looking ahead, the Rainbow Wahine will head to Osaka for their match against Kansai on Sunday, February 9.
