Women’s Tennis Triumph
PHILADELPHIA – The University of Pennsylvania’s women’s tennis team secured a thrilling victory against the reigning conference champions, the Princeton Tigers, wrapping up the match with a close score of 4-3 this afternoon.
With this win, the Quakers proudly start their conference play at 1-0, bringing their overall record to 8-7.
Sabine Rutlauka and Eileen Wang set a powerful tone in doubles matches for the Quakers, quickly taking the lead and maintaining it to clinch their match, giving Penn a strong 1-0 advantage in doubles. Meanwhile, Maya Urata and Lara Stojanovski faced a tougher road at the outset but rallied back with fierce determination. Following their game plan effectively, Urata and Stojanovski triumphed in their match, securing a crucial doubles point for Penn.
Princeton’s Eva Elbaz leveled the score with a singles victory, but Gavriella Smith quickly restored Penn’s lead with an impressive win. The Tigers responded with Anna Nguyen’s victory, tying things up at 2-2. Esha Velaga showcased her talent by securing the fourth singles point in two straight sets, putting Penn back ahead at 3-2. All eyes turned to court six as Bella Chhiv won her match on court two. Maya Urata, who initially trailed by dropping the first set to Tsehay Driscoll, composed herself under pressure to win the second set, necessitating a decisive third set. The atmosphere was electric as both competitors battled fiercely for the final point, with Urata emerging victorious to seal the match for the Quakers.
