Dominant Victory for NMU Women’s Swim and Dive Team Against Wayne State
MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Northern Michigan University (NMU) women’s swim and dive team, ranked #10, showcased an impressive display of performance in their latest meet against the #13 Wayne State Warriors. Dominating the pool, the Wildcats secured 37 out of a possible 48 podium finishes across 16 events, achieving gold in every event and sweeping the podium in five different categories.
Key Performances
Anika Wright led the charge for NMU, clinching first place in all four of her events, which included the 400 medley relay, 1000 free, 500 free, and the 400 individual medley (IM). Teammate Annika Geyer also had a strong showing, earning medals in each of her four events with a first-place finish in the 200 fly.

The meet commenced with the 400 medley relay, where NMU captured three of the top four spots. The ‘Cats’ A team, comprised of Casas, DeCarlo, Moore, and Wright, claimed gold with a time of 3:57.09.
The 1000 free followed, showcasing Wright and Geyer as they outpaced their competitors, with Wright finishing first in 10:35.15 and Geyer in second at 10:41.42.
Podium Sweeps
NMU achieved its first podium sweep in the 200 free with Araujo, Kilgard, and Santi finishing gold, silver, and bronze within 0.73 seconds of each other. Following that, the team continued its dominance in the 100 back, with Casas, Pierce, and Stockinger finishing first, second, and third, respectively.
In quick succession, the ‘Cats swept the 100 breast as DeCarlo led, followed by Zimpel and Bonini. The momentum continued with another sweep in the 200 fly, where Geyer, Moore, and Schneider claimed all three podium spots.
