Champions of Women’s Sports Launch Podcast at Watch Me! Sports Bar
Long Beach recently played host to a momentous occasion when soccer legends Julie Foudy and Abby Wambach celebrated the launch of their podcast, “Welcome to the Party,” at a new venue dedicated to women’s sports.
Visit to Watch Me! Sports Bar
On October 10, 2025, Foudy and Wambach visited Watch Me! Sports Bar, strategically located on Pacific Coast Highway opposite the 2nd & PCH shopping center. This unique bar, which opened in July 2025, stands as California’s pioneering establishment focused on showcasing women’s sports.
Co-owners Jackie Diener and Megan Eddy, known as “Jax” and “Emme,” aim to spotlight women athletes breaking barriers in sports. This mission aligns seamlessly with Foudy and Wambach’s podcast objectives.
“Welcome to the Party” Podcast Overview
The podcast, launched in September 2025, features interviews with influential figures in women’s sports. Notable guests on the show include retired track star Allyson Felix, marking the start of what promises to be an engaging series.
“This is the perfect venue — the first women’s sports bar in California,” Wambach stated. “It’s my goal to visit as many of these bars across the country as possible, connecting with local communities.”
Community Impact and Reception
The launch event attracted approximately 100 fans, all eager to engage in a Q&A session with the two soccer icons before the WNBA finals between the Las Vegas Aces and the Phoenix Mercury. The Aces ultimately clinched the title, defeating the Mercury 97-86.
During the event, Foudy commented on the positive energy in the room, highlighting the importance of community support for women’s sports: “We find our best selves when we’re around people who love women’s sports.”
Upcoming Features and Special Guests
Future episodes of “Welcome to the Party” will feature notable athletes such as Aryna Sabalenka, Breanna Stewart, and fellow USWNT member Alex Morgan. A particularly exciting aspect for Long Beach residents is the planned appearances by Billie Jean King, an iconic figure in tennis and women’s advocacy.
The Legacy of Women in Sports
Billie Jean King, a Long Beach native, has long been a proponent of gender equality in sports. Her illustrious career culminated in her being honored with the Billie Jean King Main Library, showcasing her commitment to the community.
Both Foudy and Wambach have impactful legacies of their own, with Foudy being a two-time FIFA World Cup champion and Wambach standing as the USWNT’s all-time leading goal scorer. Their careers have paved the way for future generations of female athletes.
Continuing the Fight for Equality
Having retired, Foudy and Wambach continue to advocate for gender equality in sports through their podcast and active involvement in community events. Their shared commitment drives their efforts to promote women’s achievements both on and off the field.
“These experiences shape the passion for women’s soccer,” Wambach remarked, echoing the sentiments of those who came before her. “Every generation adds to the legacy, ensuring our voices are heard.”
