Match Preview

The Hope College women’s soccer team is gearing up for a crucial match against Calvin University, a local rival, set for Tuesday, October 14, at 7 PM. Both teams enter the match with a perfect 4-0 record in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), making this a key showdown for supremacy in the conference.

Recent Performance

The Flying Dutch have demonstrated impressive form, having secured victories in their last five matches and remaining unbeaten in their prior eight games, with seven wins and one draw against the nationally ranked University of Chicago.

Game Highlights from Last Match

In their most recent encounter, Hope College traveled to Trine University, emerging victorious with a resounding 3-0 win. The team’s senior forward, Lina Rea, played a pivotal role, netting two goals during the match. This brought her season total to a career-high of seven goals.

  • First Goal: Rea opened the scoring in the 17th minute with an unassisted goal, demonstrating composure as she found the net from close range.
  • Second Goal: Ainsley Harris extended the lead just before halftime, scoring her fourth goal of the season with a skillful shot from 15 yards after maneuvering past defenders.
  • Third Goal: Rea’s second goal came in the 56th minute, assisted by Halle Barnard, who capitalized on a turnover to set up the score.

Defensive Excellence

The Flying Dutch’s defense was also noteworthy, as they limited Trine to just nine shots, achieving their seventh shutout of the season and third against MIAA opponents. Junior goalkeeper Clara Feenstra made four crucial saves to maintain the clean sheet.

Coach’s Insights

Head coach Holly Van Noord emphasized the team’s focus and preparation leading up to the match against Trine. “They’re a very good team. To come in mentally prepared and work hard from the start of the whistle was our main focus,” Van Noord stated. She commended the team’s discipline on the field, which greatly contributed to their dominant performance.

As the Flying Dutch prepare for their critical encounter with Calvin University, all eyes will be on whether they can continue their winning streak and assert their dominance in the conference.
