The Blazers are entering this contest with a 1-0 edge in their historical series against the Buccaneers. The two teams last faced each other on August 15, 2024, where UAB secured a narrow 1-0 victory to kick off the season in Birmingham, Alabama.
Recent Performance
In their last outing, the Blazers encountered a challenging match against UCF, where they were edged out with a score of 2-1. Both of UCF’s goals, along with UAB’s lone response, were scored in the first half, leaving the second half scoreless. The Knights outshot the Blazers 10-7 in this opener. Notably, freshman Rebecca Sierra marked her presence by scoring her first collegiate goal, which was assisted by Lauren Lucero.
Analyzing ETSU
The Buccaneers kicked off their season with a 1-0 victory against North Alabama, thanks to a goal from Reagan Fitzgerald, aided by Grace Eatz. In that match, ETSU outperformed UNA with a striking advantage in shots, totaling 14 to 4.
Player Updates and Roster Changes
UAB has welcomed a total of 11 new players this season, sourced from both high school rosters and the transfer portal. The team is bolstered by returning talent, with the top three goal scorers from the previous season back at their positions: Abbey Burns, who led the team with seven goals, Jette Zimmer with four, and Sydney Bolinger with two. Additional returning players who contributed goals last season include Maia Sirota, Mia Leath, Lola Sommer, and Abby Graeser, totaling 16 letterwinners returning to the squad.
