Game Summary

NORTHFIELD, Minn. – In a remarkable display of skill and teamwork, the St. Olaf College women’s soccer team achieved a 4-0 victory over Hamline University in their latest Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) match at Rolf Mellby Field. This triumph marked a significant milestone, allowing St. Olaf to match its single-season record with 14 wins, previously set last season.

Season Highlights

  • Current Record: 14-1-1 (8-0-1 MIAC)
  • Shutout Streak: The Oles extended their winning streak to nine consecutive games, all without conceding a goal.
  • Ranking: The team is currently ranked No. 4 in the United Soccer Coaches Region IX Poll and No. 21 in the NCAA Power Index (NPI).

Player Performances

Junior Emily Johnson delivered an impressive two-goal performance, propelling her into a tie for the MIAC lead with 15 goals for the season. Additionally, sophomore Avery Sames and fifth-year senior Mia Van der Heide also contributed to the scoreboard with their first goals for St. Olaf.

  • Johnson’s career totals have now reached 67 points and 29 goals, placing her sixth in program history.
  • Senior Cat Duffy-Shaw set a new program record with 21 assists after contributing two assists in this match.

Match Overview

The Oles dominated the match from the start, taking 20 out of 21 total shots and landing all 11 attempts on target. The scoring began in the 10th minute, with Johnson’s precision shot setting the tone. Just minutes later, Sames capitalized on her opportunity, followed by Van der Heide’s goal that brought the halftime score to 3-0. Johnson netted her second goal in the second half, sealing the 4-0 victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Charlotte Percy showcased her talent by achieving her 12th win of the season without facing a single shot on goal. This match not only allowed St. Olaf to retain a narrow lead in the MIAC standings but also set them up for a critical game against Augsburg University.

Upcoming Match Details

St. Olaf will continue its campaign in Minneapolis, facing Augsburg University on Saturday, October 25, at 7 p.m. The result of this match is expected to have major implications for the MIAC standings, especially with crosstown rivals Carleton College also vying for the top position.
