PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle University women’s soccer team faced a challenging match against Lehigh, ultimately losing 2-1 at McCarthy Stadium on Wednesday evening.
The game began with a competitive first half that did not yield any goals. However, the Explorers found the back of the net in the 57th minute when senior forward Justyce Hollenbach scored her first goal of the season, putting La Salle ahead 1-0.
Unfortunately for the Explorers, Lehigh quickly responded, leveling the score in the 66th minute with a penalty kick executed by Faith Dobosiewicz. Dobosiewicz then put the Mountain Hawks ahead in the 83rd minute with her second goal of the match, securing the win for Lehigh.
In the closing minutes, La Salle intensified their efforts to secure an equalizer, earning five corner kicks within a six-minute span. Despite their aggressive push, they were unable to convert any opportunities into goals.
La Salle dominated the shot count, registering 15 attempts to Lehigh’s six, with Hollenbach leading her team with six shots. However, the Mountain Hawks’ goalkeepers, Maggie Ousouljoglou and R’Reeyah Mabry-Francis, proved to be formidable adversaries, collectively making five crucial saves.
The Explorers now prepare to shift their focus to their next matchup against Stony Brook on Sunday, August 24, as they embark on the road segment of their schedule.
