Upcoming Match: FIU Women’s Soccer Set to Play Sam Houston

Recent Game Recap

Murfreesboro, Tennessee—The FIU Women’s Soccer team encountered a second consecutive loss in Conference USA play on Sunday, succumbing to Middle Tennessee with a score of 2-1.

The Panthers opened the match with vigor, as senior Brealyn Viamille scored her first goal of the season just 3:13 in, granting FIU an early 1-0 lead. This achievement marks Viamille’s sixth overall goal in her career at FIU, showcasing her consistency by scoring in every season since joining the team.

Throughout the first half, both teams exhibited strong defensive strategies, with FIU managing only two shots and Middle Tennessee recording three, two of which were on target. The Panthers entered halftime maintaining their 1-0 advantage.

The second half saw a surge of pressure from the Blue Raiders, as they outshot FIU 14-4. In the 84th minute, Emma Pettersen netted her first goal of the match, equalizing for Middle Tennessee at 1-1. Just five minutes later, Pettersen struck again, securing a comeback victory for the Blue Raiders with a final score of 2-1.

In goal, junior Valery Restrepo made five crucial saves, marking her seventh match this season with four or more saves. The Panthers concluded the game with a total of six shots, four of which were on target, with contributions in this area from Viamille, senior Chinatsu Kaio, freshman Roxy Brewer, and redshirt junior Maya Maxwell.
