OVC Tournament Semifinals: Lindenwood Advances

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lindenwood Lions women’s soccer team secured their spot in the OVC Tournament semifinals following a narrow 1-0 victory over SIUE on a chilly Sunday afternoon at Hunter Stadium. With this win, the Lions improved their season record to 9-4-5 overall and 5-2-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC).

Match Summary

The first half saw a tightly contested battle, with both teams registering six shots. A critical moment occurred in the 32nd minute when Lindenwood was awarded a penalty kick after Kaylee Conoyer was fouled in the box. Unfortunately for the Lions, SIUE goalkeeper Sarah Bozeman made a crucial save, keeping the match scoreless.

As the second half progressed, the Lions displayed an aggressive offensive approach. They took six shots in the opening 20 minutes, while SIUE managed just one. The breakthrough for Lindenwood came in the 76th minute. Mackenzie Compton delivered the game-winning goal, executing a well-timed run down the right flank. She received an excellent pass from Tasneem Dizdarevic, deftly maneuvered past the SIUE defense, and slotted the ball into the net with her right foot.

With this goal, Compton achieved her first game-winner of the season, contributing significantly to the Lions’ playoff aspirations. Additionally, goalkeeper Caroline Ritter notched her tenth clean sheet of the season, making three important saves throughout the match.

Quotes from the Head Coach

“I’m very proud of our ladies today. Postseason is about being connected, fighting through adversity, playing for each other, and finding ways to advance. It wasn’t our cleanest 90-minute game this year but our compete level was through the roof. We will enjoy this for the rest of today and then focus on the semifinal,” said head coach Dave Musso.

Looking Ahead

The Lions will travel to Cookeville, Tennessee, for the OVC Tournament semifinal matchup against the #2 seed Little Rock. The match is scheduled to kick off at 7:00 p.m. on November 6th.
