SAN FRANCISCO – Dartmouth College’s women’s soccer team achieved a significant milestone by securing its first-ever victory against the University of San Francisco, with a substantial 3-0 shutout on Thursday evening.
With this win, Dartmouth improves its season record to 3 wins, 0 losses, and 1 draw, while the Dons now stand at 1 win, 4 losses, and 1 draw. This victory places the Big Green in a tied position with Penn at the top of the Ivy League standings.
The match saw Dartmouth display strong offensive capabilities, outshooting San Francisco 10 to 9. Notably, the Big Green made 9 shots on goal, while the Dons managed only 2 throughout the 90 minutes of play.
The scoring began in the 12th minute when Maeve Theobald netted her fourth goal of the season, thanks to assists from teammates Ellie Davidson and Stephanie Lathrop. Theobald’s impressive performance keeps her as the leading goal scorer in the Ivy League.
Shortly thereafter, in the 14th minute, Hailey Rorick passed the ball to Lathrop, who effectively doubled the lead to 2-0 with her goal.
In the second half, San Francisco intensified its efforts, launching seven shots. However, Dartmouth maintained its momentum, sealing the game with a third goal in the 83rd minute. Emmanuella Frimpomaa and Michal Cagungun assisted Lourdes Lauterborn to contribute to the final scoreline.
Dartmouth’s first-year goalkeeper, Paige Knoth, played a crucial role in the victory by recording her third clean sheet in just four matches, making two saves against the Dons.
The Big Green will conclude their West Coast swing when they face Santa Clara University on Sunday at 4 p.m. EST at Stevens Stadium.
