MUNCIE, Ind. – In a fiercely competitive showdown, the Ball State women’s swimming and diving team faced the Ohio Bobcats at the Lewellen Aquatic Center. Despite their impressive performance, marked by eight event victories and 21 top-three finishes, the Cardinals narrowly lost to Ohio, with a final score of 152-148.

Highlighted Performances

Payton Kelly was a standout competitor of the day, achieving two first-place finishes in the 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle events, with times of 54.41 and 50.29, respectively. Both performances set new records at the Lewellen Pool. Furthermore, Kelly also anchored the first-place team in the 200 medley relay, which included teammates Ava Butterfield, Maya McDonald, and Anna Keen, who collectively clocked in at 1:43.86.

The freshman talent shone through, particularly with Addy Czarnecki capturing first in the 1000 freestyle, finishing in 10:28.79, marking her second victory in that event this season. Addie Beasley followed suit, securing first in the 100 breaststroke with a personal best time of 1:05.23. Milagros Amione also made a notable mark with a victory in the 200 individual medley, posting a time of 2:04.96, enhancing her standing as the second-best time in program history by just 0.02 seconds.

Additional Noteworthy Results

Other significant performances included:

  • Alexa Von Holtz securing second in the 200 butterfly (2:04.21).
  • Maya McDonald finishing second in the 200 breaststroke (2:24.12).

In diving events, Grace Walker continued her impressive streak by sweeping both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards, scoring 273.90 and 298.65 respectively. Her score on the 3-meter board ranks her 10th in program history.

Upcoming Competitions

The Ball State women’s swimming and diving team will return to action soon, as they host Bellarmine at the Lewellen Aquatic Center on November 8.
