Aam Aadmi Party Hosts Mahila Adalat Ahead of Delhi Elections
In a significant event leading up to the Delhi Assembly elections, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) organized a Mahila Adalat on Friday, December 20. The platform provided a voice for numerous women who shared their experiences of pain and hardship. During the proceedings, Chief Minister Atishi leveled sharp criticisms at the BJP and the central government regarding women’s safety in the capital.
Speaking passionately, Atishi recalled the tragic case of Nirbhaya, stating, “A heart-wrenching incident occurred with Nirbhaya. At that moment, we all pledged to prevent any such incident from happening to any sister or daughter in Delhi. Yet today, twelve years later, the answer is clear: women are not safe in our city. Those entrusted with ensuring their safety are failing.” She emphasized the ongoing risk women face, highlighting that, “Every day, three to four women are victims of rape, and the responsibility for their safety rests with the BJP’s central government. Can they genuinely guarantee security for women? Is the Delhi Police capable of shielding women from violence? I want to assert that the voices of women cannot be silenced. If this negligence continues, the women of Delhi will stand up and raise their voices.”
In a poignant moment at the Mahila Adalat, Sanjay Singh reflected, “Today marks the anniversary of Nirbhaya’s death. Despite this, Delhi remains unsafe for women. The fear is so deep that many are hesitant to express their views openly, even in this forum. I ask you all to observe two minutes of silence for our brave daughter, Nirbhaya.” Notably, the event also saw the presence of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav, who joined in the vigorous critique of the BJP’s handling of women’s safety.
