UC San Diego Tritons Triumph at Triton Invitational
CHULA VISTA, Calif. — The UC San Diego rowing team completed an impressive showing at the Triton Invitational, securing three victories against the University of San Diego (USD) on Sunday. This successful weekend of racing unfolded at the Elite Athlete Training Center on Lower Otay Lake.
Weekend Overview
The event commenced with a series of races over the two days, featuring competitors such as UCLA on Saturday and Saint Mary’s later that same day. Weather conditions presented a challenge on Saturday, with winds reaching up to 20 mph and intermittent rain. By Sunday, the weather improved significantly, allowing for optimal racing conditions.
Seniors Celebrated
In a fitting acknowledgment of their contributions, the Tritons honored 13 senior athletes after the races. Each of these rowers has been with UC San Diego for four to five years, contributing to the program’s legacy.
Boat Dedications
Sunday’s events also included the dedication of two boats. The new eight-member boat, named Whistler, was sponsored by the Gwizdak family, while a four-member boat, dubbed Reese’s Pieces, was funded through small donations and named after the daughter of associate head coach Kimberly Dale.
