NCAA Championships: Penn Women’s Rowing Prepares for Competition
The University of Pennsylvania women’s rowing team is gearing up for the NCAA Championships, set to occur this weekend from Friday through Sunday at Mercer Lake in West Windsor, New Jersey. This marks the Quakers’ fourth consecutive appearance at the national championship event.
Optimism from the Head Coach
“NCAAs is the culmination of our season and the race we’ve been pointing towards since placing tenth at last year’s Championships,” stated Bill Manning, the first-year head coach. He emphasized the dedication and growth of the athletes, saying, “The athletes have done the training, improved, supported and challenged one another and now it’s time to enjoy the racing. As always, we aim to beat our seed by improving with each race and doing our best racing on the biggest stage.”
Last Year’s Performance
In the previous year’s NCAA Championships, Penn finished in tenth place with a total of 77 points. Notably, two of its boats—the Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four—exceeded their expected outcomes. This year, the Quakers are contending with all three of their boats starting with a seed of 15th in their respective heats, aiming to secure a top-three finish that would qualify them for the A/B semifinals on Saturday and ensure a top-12 finish overall.
Schedule of Events
Friday’s races will span from 9:48 a.m. to noon, featuring all three boats from Penn. The semifinals for the A/B/C/D heats are scheduled for Saturday from 9:12 a.m. to 10:24 a.m., with the finals taking place on Sunday from 8:12 a.m. to 10:24 a.m.
