Ithaca College Women’s Lacrosse Team Triumphs in Postseason Opener
In a resounding return to postseason play, the Ithaca College women’s lacrosse team showcased their prowess by defeating Vassar College 19-10 at Higgins Stadium. The victory demonstrated a striking offensive performance reminiscent of the tempestuous weather, with the Bombers hitting the field with intensity.
Competitive First Quarter
The match began competitively, with Vassar’s sophomore midfielder Siena Wong scoring just 29 seconds into the game. The Bombers quickly responded, with junior midfielder Lily Cody leveling the score only 44 seconds later. This exchange set the tone for a fast-paced game.
Cody’s goal triggered a mini-run for the Bombers, as they scored three unanswered goals shortly thereafter. Sophomore attacker Kelly Augeri and senior attacker Elizabeth Green added to the team’s momentum before Cody assisted another goal, giving Ithaca a 3-1 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Defensive Adjustments and Dominance
As the first quarter concluded, the Bombers shifted their strategy, becoming increasingly physical on defense. Cody acknowledged Vassar’s strong defense and noted that the Bombers made necessary adjustments as the game progressed. “As the game progressed, we were able to pick [Vassar’s plays] apart and play our game,” she remarked.
The second quarter saw Ithaca seize control, with Green and Cody each scoring unassisted goals to extend the lead. Augeri, graduate student Lexi Kellish, junior attacker Leigh Naturale, and first-year attacker Kathryn Scallon contributed to the scoreboard as well. Naturale’s assist to Augeri capped off a strong first half, putting the Bombers ahead 14-5.
The Bombers’ defense intensified throughout the half, resulting in 10 forced turnovers against Vassar. Cody praised the team’s preparation, stating, “It was really great that we were able to play team defense and put together a game plan that we executed throughout the match.”
Second Half Challenges
After a brief lightning delay, the game resumed, but Vassar struggled to mount a comeback against Ithaca’s relentless defense. The Bombers opened the second half with a turnover that led directly to another goal by Kellish, further widening the gap.

Securing the Win
Despite Vassar scoring a few goals in the fourth quarter, the Bombers efficiently managed the clock during their final possessions, thwarting any hopes of a Vassar comeback. The crowd erupted with applause as Ithaca secure the victory, emphasizing their dominance on both ends of the field.
Looking Ahead
With two days to prepare for their upcoming game, Cody stressed the importance of recovery and strategic film analysis. “We know what we have to get done to get to the championship and will do exactly that,” she affirmed.
The Bombers now advance in their pursuit of the Liberty League title, set to face the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers in the Liberty League Championship Semifinals on May 2 at Higgins Stadium.
