Tufts Women’s Lacrosse Team Celebrated for NESCAC Honors
MEDFORD, MA (May 6, 2025) — The Tufts University women’s lacrosse team continues to make headlines after claiming their third New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) championship. The squad has also earned the prestigious title of the nation’s No. 1 team. In recognition of their outstanding performances, six players were selected for All-NESCAC teams, as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
All-NESCAC First Team Selections
Featured on the All-NESCAC First Team are seniors Genna Gibbons and Margie Carden, junior Allie Zorn, and graduate student Madeline Delaney. Carden’s selection marks her third consecutive year on the First Team, adding to her total of four All-NESCAC honors since her freshman year in 2022.
Margie Carden: A Season of Excellence
Carden is entering the NCAA Tournament with impressive statistics, ranking third in the NESCAC for goals scored (3.06 per game). She has tallied an impressive 55 goals and contributed 14 assists this season, bringing her total points to 69—also third in the conference. Carden is Tufts’ all-time leader in goals and points, boasting 252 goals and 316 points throughout her career.
Notable Contributions from Team Players
Joining Carden on the First Team is Allie Zorn, recognized for the first time after earning Second Team honors in 2024. Zorn has made significant contributions this season, ranking fourth in goals scored per game (2.94) and second in total points (over four per game).
Madeline Delaney has been a consistent performer, making her third All-NESCAC appearance and again securing a spot on the First Team. With 37 points and ranking sixth in the NESCAC for draw controls (4.50 per game), she has been instrumental in both offensive and defensive plays for the Jumbos.
Genna Gibbons, also making her first First Team appearance after previously being named to the Second Team, has emerged as a dominant force in draw controls. Leading the NESCAC with an average of 6.67 draw controls per game, she has set a new team record with 120 draw controls this season. Additionally, her prowess on defense is highlighted by her 20 caused turnovers.
All-NESCAC Second Team Highlights
Graduate student Emma Joyce and senior Ella Lesperance were recognized on the All-NESCAC Second Team. Joyce has again demonstrated her prowess as a two-way middie, notching 24 goals this season alongside significant defensive contributions. Lesperance, meanwhile, has become a key playmaker with the highest assist count in the conference (33) and sits third in total points for the Jumbos.
Acknowledgments and Future Competitions
In other NESCAC awards, Middlebury’s Hope Shue earned Offensive Player of the Year and Colby’s Kat Munter was honored as Defensive Player of the Year. Additionally, Amherst’s Lily Samoska was named Rookie of the Year, while the Middlebury coaching staff received the Coaching Staff of the Year award.
NCAA Tournament Outlook
Looking ahead, the Tufts Jumbos are set to compete in the NCAA Tournament, facing off against the winner of the matchup between MIT and the University of Scranton on Sunday at 1 p.m. This game will take place at Weiss Field at the University of Scranton as the Jumbos aim to further their successful season.
