UConn Women’s Hockey Welcomes Class of 2029
Storrs, Connecticut – The University of Connecticut (UConn) women’s hockey program has officially introduced its incoming class of 2029, which includes an impressive lineup of six athletes. This newly announced class comprises three forwards, two defenders, and one goaltender, all of whom are set to bolster the Huskies’ roster.
Head coach Chris MacKenzie expressed enthusiasm regarding the newest members, stating, “We are excited to welcome this freshman class to our program. As a whole, the class has attributes we look for in players to fit our team culture. They are disciplined, hard to play against, and have a strong work ethic. Welcome to UConn class of 2029!”
Meet the New Recruits
Peyton Anzivino – Forward
Peyton Anzivino, hailing from Binbrook, Ontario, Canada, is set to join UConn as a forward. A graduate of Saltfleet District High School, Anzivino has demonstrated her skills while playing with the Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres club team. She plans to pursue a degree in Exercise Science.
Taylor Belchetz – Goaltender
From Oakville, Ontario, Taylor Belchetz comes to UConn after attending Holy Trinity Catholic Secondary School. During her three seasons with the Mississauga Jr. Hurricanes, she achieved notable success, posting a remarkable 0.942 save percentage and a 1.41 goals against average in the 2024-25 season. Additionally, she earned a Provincial Bronze Medal in 2025 and was selected for the U-18 Team Canada Selection Camp in 2023.
Camryn Grimley – Defense
Camryn Grimley joins UConn from Eagleville, Pennsylvania. A standout at Pope John Paul II High School in Royersford, she played as a captain for the Jr. Flyers Tier 1 team, contributing 45 points in 44 games in the 2024-25 season. Grimley is a seasoned competitor, having won four MAWA League Championships and four USA Atlantic District Championships. She has also participated in regional and national USA Hockey camps and holds a national medal from USA Hockey.
Callie McLean – Forward
Joining from Ottawa, Ontario, Callie McLean attended John McCrae Secondary School. A forward with a distinguished background, McLean played for the Ottawa Jr. Lady Senators. In 2025, she was a silver medalist in the OWHA U-22 Elite Provincial Championships. Furthermore, she played a pivotal role in leading Team Ontario Blue Women’s U-18 to a National Championship in 2024, where she served as assistant captain. McLean has also earned invitations to the OWHA U-18 High Performance Development Camp in both 2023 and 2024, and she will be studying Allied Health Science at UConn.
Leila Ricciuti – Forward
Leila Ricciuti comes from Manotick, Ontario, where she attended St. Mark’s High School. A three-time MVP, she has been a key player for Nepean Jr in the OWHL, recording 59 points in 64 games while serving as assistant captain her senior year. Ricciuti has achieved considerable success, including being a two-time Provincials Champion and representing Team Ontario Blue at Nationals. She has also medaled at OFSAA three times.
True Thompson – Defense
True Thompson hails from Sherwood Park, Alberta, and arrives at UConn following her education at New Hampton School in New Hampshire. Under the guidance of head coach Craig Churchill, Thompson was instrumental in leading her team to two Small School NEPSAC Championships. She earned multiple accolades, including being a two-time All-NEPSAC selection, as well as a Lakes Region All-Star. Over two seasons, Thompson tallied 19 goals and 54 assists as a defenseman, and she was invited to the USA Hockey U-18 Selection Camp on two occasions.
With these talented recruits, UConn aims to enhance its competitive edge for the upcoming seasons. The class of 2029 promises to bring skill, discipline, and determination to the ice.
