Strong Performance by Samford Women’s Golf Team
HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. – The Samford women’s golf team showcased their talents by securing a commendable second place at the Low Country Intercollegiate, hosted by Wofford at the beautiful Moss Creek Golf Club over the weekend.
Top Finishers
In a competitive field of 73 players, two Samford sophomores delivered remarkable performances. Grace Engel and Gabi Nicastro both finished tied for third, recording identical three-round scores of 226, with rounds of 72-75-79 and 75-80-71 respectively.
Coach’s Remarks
Head Coach Joe Davidson praised the team for their resilience, stating, “This was a total team effort in tough and windy conditions. Grace and Gabi both finishing third was strong. I’m just proud of everyone for hanging in there.”
Team Performance
As a unit, the Samford women’s golf team completed the tournament with a combined score of 935 (312-316-307), placing second among 13 competing teams. High Point claimed victory with a final score of 913 (310-306-297).
Additional Contributions
Following Engel and Nicastro’s standout performances, Anika Richards also shone, finishing in 16th place with a total score of 236 (80-79-77). Morgan Franklin and Christian Williams contributed as well, finishing tied for 41st at 247 (85-82-80) and in 64th at 262 (92-89-81), respectively.
Upcoming Event
The Samford women’s golf team is set to compete next at the ULM Invitational, scheduled for March 31 to April 1 in Monroe, Louisiana.
