University of Pennsylvania Women’s Golf Team Shines at Ivy League Championship
NAPLES, Fla. – The University of Pennsylvania women’s golf team commenced the Ivy League Championship on a high note, achieving a record score during the first round that places them in a strong position for the tournament. The championship, comprising three days and 54 holes, is hosted this weekend at the esteemed Royal Palm Golf Club, featuring a par-72 layout.
First Round Results
Penn concluded the opening round with a team score of 4-over-par 292, positioning them in a tie for second place with Columbia. They trail Princeton, which posted a first-round score of 289 (+1) and is currently leading the event. This performance marks a significant improvement for Penn, who previously held a record of 296 (+8) for the best first-round score at the championship, set last year—a year highlighted by their title win.

This achievement marks Shin’s second consecutive under-par round in the championship, making her one of only two players in Penn’s history to accomplish this feat alongside Amanda Chin.
Senior Natalie Cao and sophomore Maggie Ni also contributed strong performances, finishing the round with scores of 1-over-par 73, placing them in a tie for eighth. Additionally, Madeleine Zang added to Penn’s scoring with a 3-over-par 75, positioning her at tied for sixteenth. Rounding out the team were junior Bridget O’Keefe with a score of 77 (+5) and freshman Claire Lu, who finished at 83 (+11).
Top Contenders
Harvard’s Vanessa Zhang currently leads the individual competition with a remarkable 4-under-par 68, two strokes ahead of Columbia’s Christine Chang. Shin’s performance puts her in close contention, tied with Columbia’s Sarah Shao, followed by a trio of players from Princeton, including Abra Richmond, YanJun Liu, and Olivia Duan, all just one stroke behind.
