Weather Disrupts Opening Day of NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship
On Tuesday evening, the 2025 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship at Kingsmill Resort’s River Course was momentarily halted due to darkness following a five-hour weather delay. Only ten out of the participating teams completed their first round before play was suspended. Washington and Lee University (W&L) did not finish the first round but managed to complete 13 holes, currently positioned at 37-over par.
The competition is set to resume Wednesday morning, allowing teams to complete their first rounds before advancing to Round 2.

- 10:22 a.m. – Play suspended due to heavy rain and flooding.
- 2:05 p.m. – Scheduled resumption of play at 3 p.m., with Alex Crews designated for a 3:35 p.m. tee time.
- 7:54 p.m. – Play suspended again due to darkness.
Championship Format and Structure
The tournament features a total of 34 teams and six individual competitors, engaging in both team and individual formats over four rounds. After the first 36 holes, the field will narrow to the top 15 teams and the top six individuals not affiliated with those teams who will progress to the final two rounds.
This season’s championship is being hosted by Christopher Newport University, marking the inaugural occasion that a Division III national championship takes place at Kingsmill’s esteemed River Course.
